The Legacy
A complete biography and timeline spanning 1971 to 2026
Biography
Born on April 1, 1949 in Buffalo, New York, Seabrun "Candy" Hunter grew up in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from Northwestern High School and serving in the Army, he joined his cousin Little Richard from Detroit in 1971, launching his legendary career in the entertainment world. What began as a chance meeting became a lifelong partnership that would define his legacy.
Seabrun learned everything from the ground upβstarting as Richard's valet, bodyguard, and chauffeur, then advancing to road manager, bandleader, and songwriter. Richard spared no expense in developing Candy as a "Mini-Me," sharing his stage worldwide and teaching him the business of music. Together, they created "Rockin' Rockin' Boogie" and "California (I'm Coming)," and Seabrun became the first artist Richard personally produced and recorded. Candy was recognized as a gifted songwriter, composer, and vocalist with a natural ability to craft lyrics and melodies on the spot, becoming an invaluable contributor to Richard's post-revival sound.
As Richard's trusted friend, brother, and manager, Seabrun wore many hats and became an invaluable asset. He wrote songs with Little Richard, engineered recordings, and performed alongside him on stages across the globe. When the master recordings were lost during touring, Seabrun preserved the legacy through his memories and documentation.
